AUSTEN CON Team
SHARMINI KUMAR
Sharmini has written, directed and produced many performance pieces and short films, and is the founder and Artistic Director of 24 Carrot Productions.
Sharmini loves Austen’s humour and wit, and particularly likes to explore issues that are not often highlighted in adaptations of Austen’s work. You can see this on display in this year’s Austen Con accompanying show ‘Introduction to Emma’.
AVRIL GOOD
Avril is an English/EAL teacher who is passionate about theatre. She has previously performed with 24 Carrot Productions in 'The Margins of Persuasion' as Servant #2/Mrs Smith, and 'Second Impressions of Pride and Prejudice' and 'Pride & Prejudice & 5 Years' as Jane Bennet.
The highlight of Avril’s Austen fanaticism was attending the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, where she discovered people who own more copies of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ than she does, and she’s not good at playing whist.
MADALYN MCCANDLESS
Madalyn’s first involvement with 24 Carrot Productions was in 2019, where she performed as Mary Bennet in ‘Pride & Prejudice & 5 Years’. She studied English Literature at Monash University and has been in numerous stage productions. She is currently in training at 16th Street Actors Studio.
Madalyn first came across Austen as a young child, watching the classic ‘BBC Pride and Prejudice’ miniseries with her family. She has fond memories of reading ‘Pride and Prejudice’ by the fire at 14, and has since fallen in love with all of Austen’s works, particularly ‘Persuasion’. She attended the Jane Austen Festival in Bath, and has performed on stage as Mary Bennet twice.
JACINTA SCADDEN
Jacinta has written, directed and acted in numerous short films and plays. She completed her Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts in 2012 and her Master of Screenwriting in 2019. She played Anne Elliot in ‘The Margins of Persuasion', Georgiana Darcy in 'Second Impressions of Pride & Prejudice' and Elizabeth Bennet in 'Pride & Prejudice & 5 Years'.
Jacinta will happily read, watch, and analyse ANY adaptation of Jane Austen’s work - good or bad. She especially adores the more quirky concepts like ‘The Lizzie Bennet Diaries’, ’Austenland’, ‘Death Comes To Pemberley’ (novel and series) and ‘Unleashing Mr. Darcy’ (novel, and especially the dogs in the film!).
